Prepare to be enchanted! Today, we’re delving into a breathtaking display of culinary artistry that promises to inspire and delight. We’re thrilled to feature the incredible talent of Paloma Efron, the creative genius behind Coco Paloma Desserts, located in the vibrant city of Austin, Texas. If you’re not yet familiar with Coco Paloma, you are truly missing out on some of the most exquisite bespoke wedding cakes in the industry. Our admiration for Paloma’s stunning creations spans years, and we are absolutely delighted to welcome her to our blog today.

Her designs are not merely cakes; they are intricate works of art, exuding unparalleled elegance and sophisticated style. It’s no surprise that Coco Paloma Desserts was recognized as a 2014 Top Pastry Pro by the prestigious Martha Stewart Weddings, a testament to her mastery and innovative approach to wedding confectionery.

When a visionary cake designer like Paloma Efron collaborates with Austin’s finest wedding vendors, the outcome is nothing short of magical. This featured fall-inspired photo shoot is a testament to that synergy, yielding results that are as uniquely conceived as they are spectacularly gorgeous. The impeccable styling and truly incredible floral arrangements were expertly orchestrated by Emily Leach and her dedicated team at Bird Dog Wedding. Capturing every delicate detail and the ethereal ambiance on film – yes, *film*, a timeless choice by a modern photographer – was the brilliant Kristen Kilpatrick Photography, whose artistry perfectly preserves the magic of the day.

This collaboration brought to life a fresh, modern interpretation of an old-fashioned romantic wedding. It beautifully weaves together a palette of subdued fall colors with charming vintage-inspired florals, creating a rich tapestry of visual delight. The scene is a harmonious blend of deep plums, elegant soft greys, and serene greens, all exquisitely highlighted with subtle touches of gleaming gold. Every element converges to create an unforgettable aesthetic, and you simply must immerse yourself in these captivating visuals!

Paloma Efron, the acclaimed owner of Coco Paloma Desserts, graciously shares her insights into the vision behind this remarkable photo shoot:

“Our goal for this fall-inspired wedding display was to create a truly unique and locally relevant aesthetic. I teamed up with the phenomenal teams at Bird Dog Wedding and Kristen Kilpatrick Photography, right here in Austin, to bring this vision to life. We carefully curated a palette featuring deep plums, soothing sage greens, and sophisticated bluish-grays to evoke a romantic garden mood that perfectly complements the unique autumn feel of Texas. Unlike the crisp weather and dramatic turning of leaves often associated with fall in northern regions, our Texas autumn offers a different kind of beauty – warmer, more subtle, yet equally enchanting. Our design embraces this distinctive local charm, making it an authentic representation of a romantic Texas fall.

A hallmark of Coco Paloma Desserts is our exquisite sugar flowers, and for this shoot, we designed two distinct cakes adorned with these delicate creations. Both cakes feature an array of vibrant deep plum ranunculus and tender pale peach anemones, each blossom meticulously crafted to perfection. A consistent element tying them together is the sophisticated grayish-blue fondant, which provides a serene and elegant canvas for the floral artistry.”

Paloma Efron of Coco Paloma Desserts further elaborates on the intricate inspiration guiding her first cake design:

“When conceptualizing this particular cake, I found myself reflecting on recent travels, perhaps having indulged in the charm of one too many Cath Kidston shops in London. There’s something truly inspiring about her ability to refresh classic, old-fashioned chintz patterns, making them feel utterly contemporary and vibrant. This creative spark undoubtedly channeled into the cake’s design. I tasked Kimberly, my exceptionally talented cake decorator, with translating this vision onto fondant, and her incredible painting skills shone through magnificently. To ensure the rich deep plum ranunculus flowers truly ‘popped’ and became the focal point, I strategically incorporated soft pale peach anemones and subtle gold buds, adding layers of depth and luxury to the overall composition. The blend of painted artistry and delicate sugar flowers results in a cake that is both a visual feast and a testament to refined taste.”

Delving deeper into her craft, Paloma Efron of Coco Paloma Desserts illuminates the intricate techniques employed in her stunning creations:

“A fundamental focal point and source of immense pride in this cake design, and indeed many of our signature creations, are the elaborate sugar flowers, meticulously sculpted from gumpaste. Crafting these delicate edible blossoms is an ongoing journey of refinement for me. The ranunculus, with its myriad layers of petals and complex structure, presents a particular and rewarding challenge. Achieving their realistic volume and intricate detail demands patience and precision. Beyond the sculpting, the artistic detailing on the cake itself was painstakingly painted freehand using Americolor food coloring. The secret to achieving truly opaque and vibrant colors, especially when layering, is to employ a generous amount of white food coloring as a base or mixer. This technique allows the deeper hues to truly shine with intensity and clarity, creating a striking visual impact that perfectly mimics the beauty of real flowers.”

Paloma Efron, the visionary behind Coco Paloma Desserts, now guides us through the exquisite details and profound inspiration woven into her second captivating cake design:

“For this particular cake, the driving concept was an opulent celebration of flowers. While it shares the same foundational color palette and sugar flower varieties as the first cake – those exquisite deep plum ranunculus and delicate pale peach anemones – this design truly amplified their presence, featuring an even grander, more dramatic arrangement. The flowers were strategically placed to create a breathtaking cascade of natural beauty, making them the undeniable focal point. Complementing this floral abundance, I integrated antique gold bars of varying heights and widths, an idea I had been developing for several months. I felt this shoot presented the perfect opportunity to bring this concept to life, as their unique sculptural quality perfectly harmonized with the romantic style we aimed to achieve.

The subtle, yet striking, pale blue-green gray color of the cake’s fondant was directly inspired by the elegant tapered candles that Emily from Bird Dog Wedding had selected for the display. I am always drawn to the power of unexpected contrast in design; it adds a layer of sophistication and intrigue. This unique shade, a departure from more traditional cake colors, worked exceptionally well, creating a captivating visual dialogue with the rich plums, soft peaches, and earthy sage tones of the flowers and decor. The antique gold bars themselves were meticulously crafted using my trusty adjustable roller to achieve their diverse dimensions, after which I meticulously painted them with a lustrous antique gold luster dust, imparting a rich, aged metallic finish that catches the light beautifully and adds a touch of timeless luxury.”
